Bruins re-sign RW Steve Heinze to a two year contract
BOSTON (Sept. 13, 1998) - The Boston Bruins have re-signed right wing Steve Heinze to a two-year contract, it was announced today by Bruins President and General Manager Harry Sinden. In keeping with club policy, terms of the contract were not released. Heinze, 28, was Boston's second pick, 60th overall, in the 1988 NHL Entry Draft following three seasons at Boston College, where he was a First Team All-American in 1989-90. He spent most of the 1991-92 season with the U. S. National and Olympic teams, turning professional at the conclusion of the 1992 Olympic Games. He signed with the Bruins on March 6, 1992 and has played the last six-plus seasons with the Bruins with career totals of 97 goals and 77 assists for 174 points and 209 penalty minutes in 367 career games. The 5'11", 202-lb. native of North Andover, MA enjoyed his best season in 1997-98, establishing career single season highs in all offensive categories. He tallied 26 goals and 20 assists for 46 points, despite missing 21 games with ankle and foot injuries. He had 11 multiple-point games on the season, including his third and fourth career hat tricks with a 3-1=4 effort Dec. 6 vs. Carolina and three goals Apr. 7 in Ottawa.
