Sinden makes offer to Carter By Nancy L. Marrapese, Globe Staff, 10/29/98 MONTREAL - It's likely that in the near future, we will know whether unsigned free agent forward Anson Carter, who is playing in the International Hockey League with the Utah Grizzlies, will play for the Bruins again. Harry Sinden met with Carter's representative, Pat Brisson, in the Bruins president-general manager's hotel here yesterday, and after a 90-minute talk, Brisson was taking back another offer to his client. ''We tried to make things a little better for them,'' said Sinden. ''He was going to talk to Anson and get back to me, so I don't know. What happens with these things is that at some point, they do reach a wall. There is an impasse. I think they felt that `it's the end with [assistant GM Mike O'Connell]; let's try Harry.' We tried to help [Brisson] go back to Anson with something a little better.'' Sinden wasn't sure that would be enough to get Carter signed. ''I got a sense [Brisson] felt I was trying a little bit but it's not what they wanted,'' he said. ''It may not be enough. It might not even be close. As a matter of fact, I got the feeling from the agent of `Thank you, but I might have to say no.' Which is OK. There's a final offer, there's a final to the final, and a final to the final to the final. I'd say we're there.'' Unsigned free agent defenseman Kyle McLaren's agent, Doug Messier, had a third party contact Sinden to set up a meeting, but none has been scheduled. ''I haven't made contact with him; he'd like to talk to me, too,'' said Sinden, adding that it was the same third party who set up the meeting with Brisson. ''I've never talked to him.'' Sinden is adamant that he won't deal either free agent unless a sensational offer comes his way.
